![]() In April 1980, Warren held Saddleback Church's first public service on Easter Sunday at the Laguna Hills High School Theater with 200 people in attendance. In January 1980, Warren began a Bible study group with seven people and his wife at their Saddleback Valley condo in Orange County, California. He co-wrote two books, The Victory Scripture Memory Series and Twelve Dynamic Bible Study Methods for Laity, with Hanks and Wayne Watts. Warren waited afterwards to shake hands with Criswell, who focused on Warren, stating, "I feel led to lay hands on you and pray for you!" ĭuring his time at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Warren worked at the Texas Ranch for Christ, a ministry facility of Billie Hanks Jr., where he began writing books. His father was a Baptist minister, his mother a high-school librarian. Warren was born in San Jose, California, the son of Jimmy and Dot Warren. He is the founder of Saddleback Church, an evangelical Baptist megachurch in Lake Forest, California. Philippians 2:8 says, “He humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross” (NLT). If you’re uncertain how or where to serve, analyze your SHAPE and look at the needs around you.ģ. If you want to be like Jesus, you have to learn to serve. Philippians 2:7 says, “Instead, he gave up his divine privileges he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being” (NLT). You can be tender without surrender you can be understanding without demanding.Ģ. Philippians 2:6 says, “Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to” (NLT).ĭo you know how countercultural it is to give up your right to something? Yes, you have rights, but demanding your rights isn’t the best way to get your needs met. When you ask what Jesus would do, your answer will always be a humble one that builds harmony and happiness rather than difficulty, defeat, bitterness, and resentment.ġ. What would Jesus do in this problem? What would Jesus do for that person who’s hurting? What would Jesus do at the office, on the golf course, or in your marriage? So if you want to be a happy, humble person, you have to learn to ask yourself: “What would Jesus do?” Jesus is your ultimate example of humility. ![]() Happiness comes from harmony, and harmony comes from humility.
